Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is encouraging the use of their online payment system to pay motor vehicle fitness fees.

Communications Officer, TAJ, Leighton Beckles, told JIS News that the process is very convenient, fast and reliable, and cited the payment platform (the virtual tax office), as the second most highly used location for payment in the recently concluded traffic ticket amnesty.

He explained that once a customer pays the fee at jamaicatax.gov.jm using any major credit card, they will receive a payment reference number that they should record, or they can print the statement of payment and take it to the relevant Island Traffic Authority (ITA) location or examination depot.

Mr. Beckles listed the locations currently accepting the online payments as Swallowfield Road, Spanish Town Road, Harbour View, St. Thomas, Spanish Town, May Pen, Mandeville, St. Ann’s Bay, Port Antonio, Port Maria, Lucea and Black River.

He said the locations in Falmouth and Savanna-la-Mar are not yet online; however, these should come online in the coming months.

The Communications Officer pointed out that there is no longer a service window at the Swallowfield Depot in Kingston.

The online payment system, which was implemented in September, is part of TAJ’s continued thrust to deliver value-added services, and coincides with the Ministry of Transport’s and ITA’s move to make their system more electronic and user-friendly,” Mr. Beckles said.

The Communications Officer said that persons who are not familiar with the process of online payments may visit the TAJ’s ‘How to’ guide at jamaicatax.gov.jm, which is an easy, user-friendly manual that will take them through the process of making the payments for their fitness fees.

Additionally, he pointed out that persons who do not have the capacity to take advantage of the online payment options for the fitness fees, may go into any of the large tax offices in Montego Bay; Spanish Town; Kingston; Constant Spring or Portmore to use an e-Tax spot, which is a designated area where persons are able to get online and, with the assistance of TAJ personnel, make the payment for their fees.
